Home Hunt: 2012, Part 6

This past Monday was moving day! During the morning, Aaron and I took our cats to my mom's apartment so that she and my sister could babysit them for a few days while we move. After that, Aaron, our friend Kaymon, and I went to the apartment office to finish up the paperwork, pay the rent, and get the keys. It took about an hour, but 10 minutes of it was waiting time. Kaymon was acting silly, so I entertained myself by taking a picture of him. lol

Home Hunt: 2012, Part 5

Sorry for not posting this last Wednesday, but I was training somebody at work (same time I blog) and had to focus on that.

On March 28th, the main apartment manager stopped by for our inspection. The only two things that he found wrong were a hair dye stain in the bedroom from when my sister lived with us and a light stain in the living room that will easily come out. Aside from that, he said the place was great, so that means that things are still a go for us to move into the new apartment on May 7th!

Home Hunt: 2012, Part 4

Things are starting to get rolling on the moving process! Last Wednesday, Aaron and I went to our apartment's office and talked to one of the managers. We told her that we want to renew our lease, but move to a 2nd story apartment in a quieter area instead. She was happy to help us and found one instantly! The only downsides are that it'll cost about $100 extra each month due to it being ready earlier than our move date, and the floor plan is flipped from our current one, so it looks like this.
It's not a huge deal, but I'm going to have to figure out our furniture placement long before moving day, since we have a sectional couch.

Home Hunt: 2012, Part 3

Since the end of our lease is coming up, around May 7th I believe, Aaron and I our going to talk to our apartment manager on Wednesday about getting a different apartment in their complex. We won't be having any roommates this time, so we're sticking with the one-bedroom floor plan we have now. The only difference is we want to be on the second story and in a quieter part of the complex, since our area will be getting louder in the Summer (we're right next to the pool). This is the floor plan, 814 sq. ft. / about 75.6 sq. meters!

Home Hunt: 2012, Part 2!

Apparently it won't be as epic as it was originally intended. Aaron decided to give up doing a real search and instead, wants to get a different apartment in the same complex, since they already know us. We still might get a roommate, but we'll see. So instead of an epic search, it'll be a small one followed by a new series about my interior design endeavors!

I'm pretty excited, it'll be nice to get an apartment upstairs and re-experiment with my furniture and paints, as well as be able to put some plants on my balcony without worrying about someone coming along and ruining them. Since we know what to look out for this time, we'll make sure the place is in top condition before we move in, so we aren't stuck with appliance and plumbing problems.

If you were looking for a place, what features would make or break a deal, in your opinion? :)

Home Hunt: 2012!

You read right, I'm going to be looking for a new home soon AGAIN! Why, you ask? Well mine and Aaron's lease will be up in mid-May and we aren't happy with our current apartment complex, because of neighbor issues along with the staff. So we thought we would try looking around again to see if we can find something better, since we have more apartment history now. This time, there's a possibility that one of my friends will be our roommate, so we're going to look into 2-bedroom apartments as well as condos and houses for rent. If we can't find anything elsewhere, then we'll have to stick with our current complex, but move into a different apartment, preferably upstairs so we don't have to worry about our security.

I'm sure you're thinking, "But, Cassandra, you're nearly done decorating your current place and you just painted the walls a few months ago!" I know that, but we don't mind repainting the walls and painting our new walls the same color if it means finding a better place. We already have the primer and extra paint left over, so we're prepared for it! I just can't wait to be able to have sunlight in our home. Our place now is a bat cave, because we're too uncomfortable with opening our blinds and having people see inside.

We're going to start looking in March, so expect to start seeing some updates then! In the meantime, I'll keep posting about the things I love and what I'm cooking, as well as trying to think of new things to post about. So keep reading! :)

Apartment Update #2

Well, we ended up getting denied for our apartment. The only reason was for a previous apartment claiming they never got paid while a previous roommate claimed they did in fact pay it off. So now we have to wait until it's either fixed or until it's paid off (again).

In the meantime, we're staying in our current apartment with my sister and her boyfriend until the lease is up, and then us, them, and our mom are going to rent a 3 bedroom house so we have more space. I'm actually pretty happy with that arrangement because it gives us time to save up for other necessary things, but I would still like to get our own place. lol

I'll keep things updated with our living situation, cross your fingers that the problem gets fixed!

Apartment Update

On Friday, Aaron and I turned in our renter applications to the complex I've mentioned before hereIt turns out, we were too late to apply for the floor plan I posted before, but there were still a few of the slightly smaller floor plans left for our time frame. It's 815 sq. ft. / about 75.7 sq. meters, has the same storage and kitchen sizes, still decent walk-in closet, personal laundry room, and a fireplace we won't be using. lol
I'm sure we'll get approved since we make more than the required income and never had a criminal record, the woman that we worked with said we should be getting a call by around Wednesday. In the meantime, I've been obsessing over interior decor ideas! I just bought a white sectional couch set from a friend and will be buying a brown chair set from him next week, but we won't pick it up until moving day. I already have a navy blue armchair in storage too, so I think they'll go together nicely. I have a list for the rest of the stuff we plan on getting too, good thing I'm saving most of my paychecks until then. lol
I don't want to show off my ideas just yet, I might just wait until I take pictures of the finished products. :)

I'm also thinking of growing my own herbs indoors, like Oregano, Basil, and Mint.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what other herbs to grow, plant nurseries to buy from, soils to use, etc? :)

Weekend Recap

My boyfriend's cat, laying on my magazine. :P

On Thursday, my boyfriend and I went apartment hunting and found a beautiful one bedroom. It's 925 sq. feet / nearly 86 sq. meters, has a decent walk-in closet, built in shelves in the dining room, a nice-sized kitchen, personal laundry room, and lots of storage. We're most likely turning in our applications this week, so I'm hoping we get accepted!

On Friday, it was my mom's 52nd birthday. We had a BBQ with close family and later that night, my sister, her boyfriend and I played in the pouring rain. It never rains here! The cake was good too, chocolate ice cream cake. :)
You can't see the rain, but we're soaked. :P Time stamp's wrong. lol

And now I'm having a Netflix movie marathon and flipping through this month's Vogue. I love how Emma Watson looks!
Now a question for you:
What are you doing this weekend?
Tell me in the comments. :)
